Project 1b was based on how to conduct a precedent study on a particular subject/object matter. The subject matter for this project was based on student's individual selection and tutorials approval. A creative info-graphic was then produced by the students to show understanding of studies.
I began research for this project based on 5 Ws and 1 H:
Who, what, where, why, when and how?
In ancient times (all the way from 5000BC) women wore nail polish as a sign of wealthiness. This transcend as far as todays society. However, in this day and age, companies manufacture nail polish for women to be able to easily apply at home, therefore is more cost efficient compared to salon prices (with the goal that the polish is easy to apply and looks similar to salon version, therefore visually looks professional or expensive).
Nail polish found at most drugstores are referred to as '5-free', as in free of the most common toxic chemicals found in nail polish. This is to ensure consumer safety and companies ethics. However, there are still many chemicals that are used in production that are consider harmful to the environment or even individuals with sensitive skin. Consumers should always be aware of individual allergies and basic ingredients of often used cosmetics.
Women nowadays also have a various option on nail shapes, colours and even finishes, as nail polish comes in many different finishes such as
- Holographic (trending now)
- Shimmer
- Glossy
- Matte
- Neon
And more
In my info-graphic, I tired to display all the information above in a creative and interactive matter. I choose important and interesting historical points to showcase in my info-graphic while also emphasising the importance by allowing different sizes according to hierarchy.
A quick survey was taken to show the demand of nail polish based on brands, consumers, prices and so on. While basic ingredients were listed to allow readers to be more aware.
Overall this assignment was very interesting and exciting as I got to do a research on one of my favourite matters. Information (both old and new to me) were displayed as best as I could on my presentation board.
